A First Love, A Broken Heart, and a New Beginning

Chapter 1 — The Beginning
Shikhar was an MBA student living in a flat with his two roommates, Ravi and Manish.
Shikhar was focused on his studies and his future. He had never been seriously involved in a relationship before. In fact, several girls had shown interest in him, but he had never really cared.
For Shikhar, love was something he had never experienced.
Until Anjali entered his life.
Chapter 2 — How They Met
Ravi had a close friend named Shweta.
Shweta and Anjali were roommates. Both worked as community health officers, serving people in villages and nearby communities.
Because Shweta often visited Ravi’s flat, Anjali sometimes came along with her.
One day, Shweta and Anjali came to Ravi, Shikhar and Manish’s flat.
Everyone already knew that Shikhar and Anjali might get along.
The friends often teased Shikhar:
“Bro, just talk to Anjali!”
But Shikhar had never taken it seriously.
Until they finally met.
Chapter 3 — The First Meeting
At first, everything was completely normal.
Everyone was talking, laughing and spending time together.
Anjali and Shikhar started talking.
The conversation felt surprisingly natural.
They connected quickly.
Anjali was staying there for two days with Shweta.
On the second night, something unexpected happened.
Shikhar and Anjali became much closer.
They spent the night together under the same blanket while everyone else slept separately.
There was an immediate emotional connection between them.
What started as a simple meeting suddenly felt like something much bigger.
For Shikhar, it was his first real experience of love.
Chapter 4 — The Relationship Begins
After that meeting, their conversations continued on WhatsApp.
Messages became calls.
Calls became regular conversations.
And soon, meetings became a part of their lives.
They began spending more and more time together.
Their bond grew quickly.
For Shikhar, this was different from anything he had experienced before.
He wasn’t simply interested in Anjali.
He was falling deeply in love with her.
Chapter 5 — The First Love
Shikhar’s friends Ravi and Manish noticed how deeply he was becoming attached to Anjali.
They supported him.
They wanted him to be happy.
Shikhar started imagining the little things people do when they fall in love.
He wanted to give Anjali flowers on Valentine’s Day.
He wanted to surprise her.
He wanted to spend more time with her.
For Shikhar, this wasn’t casual.
It was his first love.
And first love can be incredibly intense.
Chapter 6 — The Things Shikhar Didn’t Know
There was, however, another side to Anjali that Shikhar didn’t see.
Anjali was very friendly and comfortable around other people.
Ravi, who knew her better, noticed that her relationship with another person in their circle appeared to be getting unusually close.
There were moments of physical closeness and boundaries that made Ravi uncomfortable.
But Ravi didn’t immediately tell Shikhar everything.
He didn’t want to destroy his friend’s relationship.
Instead, he tried to warn him.
“Shikhar, be careful. I don’t think this relationship is good for you.”
But Shikhar was in love.
He didn’t want to believe anything negative about Anjali.
To him, Anjali was the person he loved.
Chapter 7 — When Friends Tried to Warn Him
Ravi and Manish repeatedly tried to explain things to Shikhar.
They told him that he should think carefully before becoming too emotionally dependent on Anjali.
But Shikhar didn’t listen.
He believed that Anjali loved him.
And whenever she told him:
“I love you. I only love you.”
he believed her completely.
He trusted her without questioning.
Chapter 8 — Love Becomes Obsession
As the relationship continued, Shikhar became increasingly attached to Anjali.
Anjali also wanted Shikhar’s constant attention.
She wanted him to stay on calls with her.
She wanted him to be available whenever she needed him.
But Shikhar was an MBA student.
He had classes, assignments, exams and responsibilities.
He couldn’t always be available.
Whenever he became busy with college, Anjali would become upset.
Arguments started becoming a regular part of their relationship.
But they continued coming back to each other.
Chapter 9 — The Promise of Marriage
As their relationship became more serious, Anjali asked Shikhar for commitment.
She wanted him to promise that he would marry her.
Shikhar was ready.
He was young, deeply in love, and believed that Anjali was the person he wanted to spend his future with.
He didn’t think of the relationship as temporary.
For him, it was serious.
He was ready to make a lifelong commitment.
Chapter 10 — The Hidden Problems
But slowly, Shikhar began noticing changes.
Anjali seemed to expect him to spend money frequently.
Cafés, outings, meals and other expenses became common.
Shikhar started feeling that the relationship was becoming financially exhausting.
At the same time, the emotional connection between them was changing.
Anjali began spending less time with him.
Her calls became less frequent.
Her interest seemed to be fading.
Shikhar couldn’t understand why.
Chapter 11 — When She Started Pulling Away
The person who once wanted Shikhar’s constant attention was now becoming distant.
Messages became less frequent.
Meetings became less frequent.
Conversations became shorter.
Shikhar tried harder.
But the harder he tried, the more distant Anjali seemed.
He couldn’t understand what had changed.
His friends could see it.
Shikhar couldn’t.
Because when you’re inside a relationship, sometimes you are the last person to notice that it is falling apart.
Chapter 12 — Shikhar Begins to Break
This was Shikhar’s first serious love.
So when the relationship started falling apart, it didn’t feel like just a breakup.
It felt like losing a part of himself.
He stopped talking to Ravi and Manish.
He stopped going to college regularly.
He became quiet.
He stayed sad most of the time.
The energetic MBA student who once had plans for his future was slowly disappearing.
His roommates knew something was seriously wrong.
They tried to support him.
But Shikhar was emotionally trapped.
Chapter 13 — The End
Eventually, Anjali moved on.
She chose another man and eventually married someone she considered financially and professionally secure.
For Shikhar, it was devastating.
The girl he had loved so deeply was now someone else’s wife.
His first love had ended.
And there was nothing he could do to change it.
Chapter 14 — The Second Beginning
But life didn’t stop there.
Shikhar eventually completed his MBA.
He got a good job.
He moved to another place.
He started earning well.
Slowly, he began rebuilding his life.
The pain didn’t disappear overnight.
But with time, Shikhar learned to live without Anjali.
He started focusing on his career, his future and his own identity.
The boy who once believed his life revolved around one person eventually discovered that his life was much bigger than that relationship.
The End
Anjali became a chapter in Shikhar’s past.
Shikhar became someone who had survived his first heartbreak.
And perhaps that’s the strange thing about first love:
You may not end up with the person you loved first.
But sometimes that first love teaches you the most important lesson of your life—
Never lose yourself while trying to hold on to someone else.
Shikhar’s love story ended.
But Shikhar’s life didn’t.
And that was only the beginning of his next story.
