Jantar Mantar Protest: Why I Believe the Movement Should Stay Focused on Students

India is a democracy, and every citizen has the right to raise their voice peacefully. Throughout our history, many important changes have come because people stood together for a genuine cause. But I also believe that every protest has a responsibility to remain focused on its original purpose. Once a movement loses its direction, the people it was meant to help often become the biggest victims.

Over the past few days, I have closely followed the Jantar Mantar protest through live videos, social media coverage, and discussions with people who visited the protest site. After watching these developments, I felt it was important to share my personal opinion.

The Main Issue Was the Examination System

As I understand it, the protest began because of concerns surrounding the NEET-PG examination and demands for fairness in the examination process. Students who spend years preparing for competitive exams deserve transparency and equal opportunities.

If there are doubts about an examination, students have every right to question the system and ask for accountability. I fully support the idea that every examination should be conducted fairly and securely so that deserving candidates succeed through merit.

My Concern: The Protest Appeared to Lose Focus

While watching videos from the protest, I felt that the discussion was no longer limited to the original issue.

In my opinion, many people present seemed to be raising different political or unrelated issues alongside the students’ concerns. When a protest begins to include multiple agendas, the original purpose can become less visible.

Whether others agree with me or not, I believe that a student movement should remain centered on student issues.

Students Should Lead Student Movements

One thing that stood out to me was that the voices of the students directly affected by the examination did not always appear to be the most prominent.

Personally, I believe that those preparing for NEET-PG should be leading the conversation. Their experiences, their struggles, and their suggestions deserve the most attention because they are directly impacted.

Support from society is welcome, but the movement should continue reflecting the concerns of the students themselves.

Peaceful Protest Is the Strongest Protest

Every democracy protects the right to peaceful protest.

However, I believe that once demonstrations become aggressive or violent, public attention shifts away from the original issue. Instead of discussing examination reforms, people begin discussing clashes, law and order, and damage.

That weakens the movement.

A peaceful protest is more likely to earn public trust and encourage meaningful dialogue with the authorities.

Violence Does Not Solve Problems

Videos circulating online showed clashes between some protesters and police. I cannot independently verify how every incident unfolded, and different accounts have emerged.

Regardless of who was responsible, my opinion is simple: violence benefits no one.

If protesters attack police personnel or damage public property, tensions naturally increase. Likewise, any use of unnecessary force against peaceful demonstrators also raises concerns.

In either situation, the original issue receives less attention.

The focus should always remain on solving the problem—not creating new ones.

Why Examination Integrity Matters

Many students were disappointed when the examination process was affected.

I understand that postponements or re-examinations can be stressful after months or years of preparation.

At the same time, I believe that maintaining the credibility of medical entrance examinations is extremely important.

Doctors carry immense responsibility. Every patient expects that the person treating them has earned their position through knowledge, hard work, and a fair selection process.

If there are genuine concerns about an examination’s fairness, corrective action may be necessary to protect the integrity of the system.

A Delay Is Frustrating, But It Can Also Be an Opportunity

No student wants an examination to be delayed.

The uncertainty creates stress, financial pressure, and emotional exhaustion.

Still, from my perspective, a postponed examination can also provide additional preparation time. It is not the outcome students hope for, but it does not necessarily mean that their future has been taken away.

Every difficult situation also offers another chance to improve.

Students Need Support, Not Hopelessness

Competitive examinations place enormous pressure on young people.

Families, teachers, coaching institutes, and society all have a responsibility to encourage students during difficult periods.

In my opinion, no examination result should make someone feel that life has no value. Success and failure are temporary, but life is far more important than any single exam.

Students should always seek support when they feel overwhelmed.

What Should Be Demanded?

Instead of only expressing anger, I believe student movements should also present practical solutions.

Some constructive demands could include:

Stronger examination security.
Better technology to prevent paper leaks.
Faster investigations into irregularities.
Strict punishment for those responsible for misconduct.
Transparent communication from authorities.
Better grievance redressal systems for students.

When solutions accompany criticism, the movement becomes stronger.

My Appeal to Everyone

This issue affects students, families, and the future of healthcare.

That is why I request everyone involved to keep the movement peaceful and respectful.

Students should continue raising their voices.

Authorities should continue listening.

Police should ensure public safety while respecting peaceful demonstrations.

Society should support genuine student concerns without allowing the discussion to lose its original focus.

The Jantar Mantar protest has once again highlighted how deeply students care about fairness in competitive examinations. Their concerns deserve attention and sincere efforts toward improvement.

At the same time, I believe the strength of any protest lies in its discipline, clarity, and peaceful nature. When a movement remains focused on its original purpose and presents constructive solutions, it is more likely to earn public trust and bring meaningful change.

This article reflects my personal perspective. Others may see the events differently, and respectful discussion is an important part of any democracy. Ultimately, the shared goal should be an education system that is transparent, accountable, and fair for every deserving student.
